I’m aiming to take photos of my hometown in
the Historic Apalachicola Florida. It is very small; in our entire county the
graduating class was 55 students. I want to take the viewer on an intimate
journey with Apalach. Most of the images, I don't want to be to personal
involving me. I want it to be just the viewer and the town. I want to show them
a little bit of everything; nature, historic buildings, and most importantly
the community that I grew up in that is beautifully rustic. Instead of
considering this a proposal I would rather consider it a creative poetic flow.
Here is my perspective that can give you a visual before I start shooting, take
a second and read it to yourself and envision yourself on this
intimate journey:
Ocean waves and birds chirping,
It’s just another beautiful day in
Apalachicola, Florida.
The sun brightening our town.
The water flowing up the river.
Right on the edge of the state, on the
panhandle.
The tourist pay to come here
But the best part of our area is free.
I’m talking about the nature.
The land, water, and animals.
We don’t have a backyard,
We have a water front.
The long stretch of water is the
Apalachicola Bay.
There is no McDonalds, no Walmart
And the closest mall is 2 hours away.
We only have one traffic light.
We run off the nature,
We live off the water.
We’re known for our seafood, nature, and
history.
They call us the oyster town.
The best scenes in town are right outside
our door.
The history is everywhere you turn.
Tear down old houses, no.
We don’t want to do that.
We could never do that.
We want to save our past.
We need to save our past
Tradition is what we thirst for.
We don’t have much.
But we love every single thing we have.
From the old oyster shells
to the rusty historical artifact.
Our town is unique.
It’s peaceful
It’s perfect
It’s Apalachicola.
